Microsoft’s Surface Is Feature Rich, But Still A Mystery

Microsoft took center stage last week in Los Angeles, giving onlookers and web-viewers a glimpse of their new tablet.

Surface showcased features that many believe the developers at Apple have long overlooked. A built in kick stand, an integrated keyboard, flash card slots, and USB ports are just a few. Microsoft presented plans for two versions of the new tablet, but both will boast HD screens, lightweight portability, and a new magnesium alloy body developed by the software magnate. While many details about the upcoming release were left to the spectators imagination, all in attendance were left asking the same question: when will it be released?
For now, that question has yet to be answered.

For all the available details about Surface, watch this week’s Sweet Tip video. If you have any questions about the new tablet, send us an email at sweettips@compren.com. Make sure you ask about our weekly specials and the computer repair services available in your area.

The New iPad

Apple released its third version of the iPad last week to rave reviews and quiet skepticism.

The new iPad, also known as the iPad 3, is showing off some great new features, including its incredibly vibrant Retina display, a camera capable of shooting video in 1080p, and most of all, the highly anticipated 4G LTE. In a side by side test, we matched the speeds of the new iPad on both the 4G LTE and on wifi. The results were very impressive. The 4G LTE held its own against the wifi connection, sometimes surpassing it. On the downside, the New iPad does seem to run its battery down a little faster and also appears to get a little warmer that its predecessors. But these are minor in comparison to the robust features on the iPad 3.

Cloud computing is becoming all the rage. This week, we’re taking a closer look at one of the most popular cloud apps, Dropbox.

Dropbox is a free app that works with Mac, PC, iPhones and iPads, Blackberry and Android. You’ll get 2 gigabytes of storage space where you can upload pictures, music, documents, videos and more. When you install Dropbox on any of your devices, anything you store in the cloud is automatically and instantly available on those other devices. Change a few words in a document and Dropbox updates it everywhere . The app also lets you share files that are in your virtual space. If you’d want to show Mom pictures of her grandkids birthday party, simply send her a link and she can browse through the photos.

You can download Dropbox free at Dropbox.com. If 2 gigabytes isn’t enough storage space for you, there is a paid version that provides you with 50 gigabytes. The subscription is $9.99 a month, or pay for the year in advance at $99. There is also a professional version for small businesses that gives you up to 1 terabyte of storage.
